Sophia Dorothea of Celle, born on September fifteenth, sixteen sixty-six, was a prominent socialite and politician, known for her tumultuous life and dramatic circumstances. She was the repudiated wife of George I, the future King of Great Britain, a union that was orchestrated by her father, George William, alongside the influential figures of her father-in-law, the Elector of Hanover, and her mother-in-law, Electress Sophia of Hanover, who was a first cousin to King Charles II of England.

Her marriage to George, her first cousin, was primarily a political arrangement, reflecting the intricate alliances of European nobility during that era.
