Sofia Costanza Brigida Villani Scicolone, known to the world as Sophia Loren, was born on September 20, 1934. This Italian actress has captivated audiences for over 70 years, becoming one of the last major stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Her journey into the film industry began at the tender age of 16, following encouragement to pursue acting after participating in a beauty pageant.

In the early years of her career, Loren took on various minor roles until a pivotal five-picture contract with Paramount in 1956 catapulted her to international fame. During the 1950s, she emerged as a symbol of sexual emancipation, starring in notable films such as The Pride and the Passion, Houseboat, and It Started in Naples, solidifying her status as one of the era's most recognized sex symbols.

Loren's remarkable talent was showcased in her award-winning performance as Cesira in the film Two Women (1960), directed by Vittorio De Sica. This role earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the first performer to win an Oscar for a non-English-language performance.
