Spotted Tail, born in 1823, was a prominent Sichangu Lakota tribal chief renowned for his prowess as a warrior from a young age. He engaged in conflicts against the Ute, Pawnee, and Absaroke tribes, and played a significant role in the Grattan Massacre. Following this event, he led his warriors during the Colorado and Platte River uprising, known as Spotted Tail's War, in response to the tragic Sand Creek Massacre perpetrated by John M. Chivington's Colorado Volunteers in November eighteen sixty-four. However, he chose not to partake in Red Cloud's War.
