Sri Mulyani

Sri Mulyani, born on August 26, 1962, is a prominent Indonesian economist and politician who has made significant contributions to the nation's financial landscape. She served as the Minister of Finance from 2016 to 2025 under Presidents Joko Widodo and Prabowo Subianto, and previously held the same position under President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono from 2005 to 2010.

During her first term, Sri Mulyani was instrumental in fortifying Indonesia's economy, attracting investments, and guiding the country through the tumultuous waters of the 2008 financial crisis and the subsequent Great Recession. Despite her successes, she faced considerable backlash for her support of the Bank Century bailout in 2008, which cost the government six trillion seven hundred sixty billion rupiah, leading to a non-confidence vote in the Indonesian House of Representatives.

After resigning in 2010, she took on a pivotal role at the World Bank as Managing Director before returning to her ministerial position in 2016. Notably, she became the first individual to serve as Minister of Finance under three successive presidents, a testament to her resilience and expertise in economic governance.

Her reappointment in Widodo's administration was met with widespread acclaim, earning her a spot on Forbes' list of The World's 100 Most Powerful Women multiple times. However, her tenure was not without controversy, as she faced criticism for her budgeting and tax policies. The protests in August and September 2025 marked a tumultuous period, culminating in her home in South Tangerang being targeted by looters.

On September 8, 2025, Sri Mulyani was succeeded by Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa as finance minister, closing a significant chapter in her impactful career.
