Stacey Abrams

Stacey Abrams, born on December ninth, nineteen seventy-three, is a prominent American politician, lawyer, and voting rights activist. She served in the Georgia House of Representatives from two thousand seven to two thousand seventeen, where she held the position of minority leader from two thousand eleven to two thousand seventeen. As a dedicated member of the Democratic Party, Abrams has made significant contributions to the political landscape, particularly in her efforts to combat voter suppression.

In two thousand eighteen, she founded Fair Fight Action, an organization aimed at addressing voter suppression issues. Her tireless advocacy has been credited with significantly increasing voter turnout in Georgia, notably during the two thousand twenty presidential election, where Joe Biden secured a narrow victory in the state. Additionally, her efforts played a crucial role in the two thousand twenty-one U.S. Senate elections, which resulted in Democratic control of the Senate.

Abrams made history as the first African-American female major-party gubernatorial nominee in the United States during the two thousand eighteen Georgia gubernatorial election, where she narrowly lost to Republican Brian Kemp by one point four percent. In February two thousand nineteen, she became the first African-American woman to deliver a response to the State of the Union address. She ran for governor again in two thousand twenty-two but lost to Kemp by a larger margin of seven point five percent.

In addition to her political career, Abrams is a talented author, having written both fiction and nonfiction. Her nonfiction works, including Our Time Is Now and Lead from the Outside, achieved New York Times best seller status. Under the pen name Selena Montgomery, she authored eight fiction books prior to two thousand twenty-one. Her novel, While Justice Sleeps, was released on May eleventh, two thousand twenty-one, under her real name, and she also published a children's book, Stacey's Extraordinary Words, in December two thousand twenty-one.
