Staffan de Mistura, born on January twenty-fifth, nineteen forty-seven, is a distinguished Italian-Swedish diplomat and politician with a remarkable career spanning over four decades in various United Nations agencies. His extensive experience includes serving as the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs and later as Deputy Foreign Minister in the Italian government under Prime Minister Mario Monti.
Throughout his career, de Mistura has held several significant positions within the UN, including Special Representative of the Secretary-General in Iraq from two thousand seven to two thousand nine, and in Afghanistan from two thousand ten to two thousand eleven. He also served as the Personal Representative of the Secretary-General for Southern Lebanon from two thousand one to two thousand four, and directed the UN Information Center in Rome from two thousand to two thousand one.
