Stanisław Nagy

Stanisław Nagy, born on September thirtieth, nineteen twenty-one, in Bieruń, Silesia, Poland, was a distinguished member of the Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, commonly known as the Dehonians. He hailed from a multicultural background, with a Hungarian father and a Polish mother. His journey into the priesthood began in nineteen thirty-seven when he joined the Dehonian Congregation, culminating in his ordination as a priest in nineteen forty-five.

Nagy's academic and ecclesiastical contributions were significant. He served as a rector in Kraków-Płaszów and Tarnów, and he was a respected professor at the Catholic University of Lublin. His expertise and dedication led him to participate in the International Theological Commission and the Joint-Catholic-Lutheran Commission during the early nineteen seventies. Additionally, he was involved with the editorial staff of the Catholic Encyclopedia.

Throughout his career, Cardinal Nagy was an advocate for ecumenism, authoring several books on the subject and on Pope John Paul II. His influence extended to the Synods of nineteen eighty-one and nineteen eighty-five, where he contributed to important discussions within the Church. On October twenty-first, two thousand three, he was consecrated as Archbishop and became Cardinal-Deacon of Santa Maria della Scala.

Stanisław Nagy passed away on June fifth, two thousand thirteen, in Kraków, Poland, leaving behind a legacy of theological scholarship and interfaith dialogue.
