Stanley Turrentine

Stanley William Turrentine, affectionately known as Mr. T, was born on April 5, 1934, and left an indelible mark on the world of jazz before his passing on September 12, 2000. As a Grammy-nominated tenor saxophonist and record producer, Turrentine's musical journey began in the realm of rhythm and blues, where he played for the legendary Earl Bostic. His career took a significant turn in the 1960s when he became a prominent figure in soul jazz, recording extensively for the esteemed Blue Note label.

Throughout the 1970s, Turrentine explored the evolving sounds of jazz fusion during his time with CTI Records. His unique style was characterized by a thick, rippling tone that resonated deeply with audiences, earning him praise from critics like Steve Huey, who noted his earthy grounding in the blues.
