Stavros Theodorakis, born on February twenty-first, nineteen sixty-three, in Drapanias near Chania on the island of Crete, is a prominent Greek journalist and politician. Raised in Agia Varvara, western Attica, he embarked on his journalism career in nineteen eighty-four, contributing to radio stations such as 902 FM and Skai 100.3, as well as the newspaper Eleftherotypia. His dedication to social issues was evident when he engaged in educating Roma between nineteen eighty-five and nineteen eighty-seven, and he has authored three books throughout his career.
In two thousand, Theodorakis launched the influential television show "Protagonists" on the public channel NET, later moving it to the private station Mega TV in two thousand six. His weekly column in the newspaper Ta Nea further solidified his presence in the media landscape. However, on February twenty-sixth, two thousand fourteen, he made a pivotal decision to resign from both his television show and newspaper column to establish a new political party, To Potami (The River), aiming to foster a broader Leftist movement in Europe.
Under his leadership, To Potami gained significant traction in the January two thousand fifteen elections, securing six point one percent of the vote and winning seventeen seats in the Hellenic parliament. However, the party's performance declined in the September two thousand fifteen elections, where it garnered only four point zero nine percent and eleven seats. Following a disappointing showing in the two thousand nineteen European Parliament Elections, where the party received one point five two percent of the vote and failed to win any seats, Theodorakis stepped down as President of the party.
In addition to his political endeavors, Theodorakis has been involved in various media projects, including the website Protagon.gr. His commitment to creating a new European policy reflects his belief that a country's survival should not rely solely on the goodwill of its creditors.
