Iversen's professional journey began at the age of eighteen with Rosenborg, where he quickly made a name for himself by winning two consecutive Norwegian league championships. His career took a significant turn in December nineteen ninety-six when he signed with Tottenham Hotspur. Over the course of seven years with the club, he netted fifty-four goals and contributed to their League Cup victory.

After a brief stint at Wolverhampton Wanderers, Iversen returned to Norway, joining Vålerenga. His impact was immediate, helping the team secure their first league championship in twenty-one years. In two thousand six, he made a return to Rosenborg, where he celebrated another league title in two thousand ten. Following a thirteen-month period at Crystal Palace, Iversen rejoined Rosenborg for the third time in February two thousand twelve.
