Stefi Baum

Stefi Baum, born on December eleventh, nineteen fifty-eight, is a distinguished American-Canadian astrophysicist renowned for her extensive research in the field of active galactic nuclei, radio galaxies, and the pivotal role of supermassive black holes in the evolution of galaxies. With over two hundred thirty refereed papers to her name, her work has garnered more than twenty-two thousand citations, underscoring her significant impact on the scientific community.

Baum dedicated more than a decade to the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), where she played a crucial role in the development and commissioning of the Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) for the Hubble Space Telescope. Her leadership extended to overseeing the institute's data archive and engineering divisions, showcasing her multifaceted expertise in astrophysics.

From two thousand four to two thousand fourteen, she directed the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology, further solidifying her reputation in the academic realm. Following this, she served as Dean of the Faculty of Science at the University of Manitoba from two thousand fourteen to two thousand twenty-two, contributing to the advancement of scientific education and research.
