Stephanie Herseth Sandlin

Stephanie Herseth Sandlin, born on December third, nineteen seventy, is a prominent American attorney and politician affiliated with the Democratic Party. She made history as the first woman elected to the United States House of Representatives from South Dakota, serving from two thousand four until two thousand eleven. Her political journey began with a special election in July two thousand four, and she successfully secured three full terms before her tenure concluded with a loss to Republican Kristi Noem in two thousand ten.

During her time in Congress, Sandlin was recognized as the youngest female member of the House, a testament to her trailblazing role in South Dakota politics. She is also a member of the notable Herseth family, which has deep roots in the state.
