Stephen F. Cohen

Stephen F. Cohen, born on November twenty-fifth, nineteen thirty-eight, was a prominent American scholar specializing in Russian studies. His academic pursuits primarily focused on modern Russian history, particularly the developments following the Bolshevik Revolution, as well as the intricate relationship between Russia and the United States.

In addition to his scholarly contributions, Cohen was a notable journalist and a contributing editor for The Nation magazine, a publication partially owned by his wife, Katrina vanden Heuvel. His insights and analyses were widely respected, making him a significant voice in discussions surrounding Russian affairs.

Cohen's influence extended beyond journalism; he was a founding director of the American Committee for East–West Accord, which was reestablished in two thousand fifteen. His work in the field of Sovietology earned him recognition and respect, even from ideological opponents. Richard Pipes, a longtime rival, acknowledged Cohen's expertise by referring to him as 'the second-brightest expert in the field.'
