Stephen Kiprotich, born on February twenty-seventh, nineteen eighty-nine, is a distinguished Ugandan long-distance runner renowned for his exceptional achievements in marathon running. He made history by clinching the gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics, marking a significant milestone as Uganda's first Olympic medal in the marathon and the country's first gold medal since nineteen seventy-two.
His remarkable victory in London came with a winning time of two hours, eight minutes, and one second, achieved under challenging hot, sunny, and humid conditions. This triumph not only elevated Kiprotich to Olympic champion status but also reignited national pride, as it was Uganda's first Olympic medal since nineteen ninety-six.
In addition to his Olympic success, Kiprotich further solidified his legacy by winning gold at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics. This achievement made him the second athlete in history, following Ethiopia's Gezahegne Abera, to secure both an Olympic marathon title and a world championship gold medal in the same event.
On August seventeenth, two thousand thirteen, Kiprotich showcased his prowess once again by winning the Moscow IAAF Championship marathon, further establishing himself as one of the elite long-distance runners in the world.
