Stephen Worobetz

Stephen Worobetz, born on December twenty-sixth, nineteen fourteen, in Krydor, Saskatchewan, was a distinguished Canadian physician and politician. Of Ukrainian descent, he pursued higher education at the University of Saskatchewan, earning a Bachelor of Science in nineteen thirty-five, followed by a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Manitoba in nineteen forty.

During World War II, Worobetz served valiantly as a medical officer with the Canadian Army in Italy, where his exemplary service earned him the Military Cross. After the war, he returned to Canada, where he practiced medicine in Saskatoon and furthered his studies to become a general surgeon in Winnipeg and Philadelphia.

From nineteen seventy to nineteen seventy-six, he held the esteemed position of the thirteenth Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan. In this role, he represented The Queen, performing significant duties such as reading the Speech from the Throne, swearing in premiers and Cabinet ministers, and opening legislative sessions. He also had the honor of bestowing accolades upon the citizens of Saskatchewan.

Following his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, Worobetz returned to his medical practice until his retirement in nineteen eighty-two. His contributions to society were recognized when he was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada in nineteen ninety-three and awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in nineteen ninety-nine. Stephen Worobetz passed away on February second, two thousand six.
