Steve Alford, born on November twenty-third, nineteen sixty-four, is a distinguished American men's college basketball coach and former professional player. Currently, he serves as the head coach for the Nevada Wolf Pack in the Mountain West Conference. Alford's basketball journey began in Indiana, where he was recognized as Indiana Mr. Basketball during his high school years.

Alford's collegiate career at Indiana University Bloomington under the legendary coach Bobby Knight was nothing short of remarkable. He was a two-time consensus first-team All-American and played a pivotal role in leading the Hoosiers to their fifth national championship in nineteen eighty-seven. By the time he concluded his college career, he had established himself as Indiana's all-time leading scorer.

Following his successful college tenure, Alford was selected in the second round of the nineteen eighty-seven NBA draft by the Dallas Mavericks. He played professionally for four years in the NBA, representing both the Mavericks and the Golden State Warriors. After his playing days, he transitioned into coaching, amassing over thirty years of experience as a college head coach.

Throughout his coaching career, Alford has held positions at several institutions, including Manchester University, Southwest Missouri State University, the University of Iowa, and the University of New Mexico. His tenure with the UCLA Bruins lasted more than five and a half seasons, culminating in his departure midseason during the two thousand eighteen-nineteen season. In two thousand twenty-three, he made headlines by leading Nevada to the NCAA Tournament, marking him as the fourth head coach to guide five different teams to the NCAA Division I Tournament.
