Steve Crocker

Stephen D. Crocker, born on October 15, 1944, is a distinguished American computer scientist and a pivotal figure in the evolution of the Internet. His groundbreaking work began in 1969 when he established the ARPA Network Working Group, a foundational step in the development of network protocols.

One of Crocker's most significant contributions is the creation of the Request for Comments (RFC) series, which has become a vital mechanism for the dissemination of technical information and standards within the Internet community. This initiative has played a crucial role in shaping the protocols that govern Internet communication today.

In addition to his early contributions, Crocker served as the chair of the board of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) from two thousand eleven to two thousand seventeen. His leadership during this period was instrumental in guiding the organization through critical phases of Internet governance.
