Steve Gohouri, born on February eighth, nineteen eighty-one, was an Ivorian professional footballer renowned for his role as a defender. His football journey began in France, where he honed his skills in the youth teams of CS Brétigny and Paris Saint-Germain. However, due to limited opportunities in the first team, he ventured to Israel for a brief stint with Bnei Yehuda before making his way to Switzerland to join Yverdon-Sport.
Over the next seven seasons, Gohouri established himself in the Swiss leagues, playing for clubs such as Vaduz, where he made his debut in European competition, and Young Boys, where he earned a runners-up medal in the Swiss Cup. In two thousand seven, he took a significant step in his career by signing with Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga. Despite his potential, he faced challenges in securing a regular spot in the first team and was eventually relegated to the reserves in two thousand nine.
After his release from Borussia Mönchengladbach at the end of that year, Gohouri joined Premier League side Wigan Athletic, furthering his career in one of the most competitive leagues in the world. On the international stage, he represented the Ivory Coast, making his debut in two thousand six, although his appearances for the national team were sporadic.
Tragically, on December twelfth, two thousand fifteen, Gohouri was reported missing. His body was discovered in the Rhine river almost three weeks later, on New Year's Eve, December thirty-first, leaving a profound impact on the football community and those who knew him.
