Steve Keen, born on March twenty-eight, nineteen fifty-three, is a prominent Australian economist and author known for his critical stance on neoclassical economics. He identifies as a post-Keynesian, arguing that traditional economic theories are often inconsistent, unscientific, and lack empirical support.
His academic journey includes a significant tenure as an associate professor of economics at the University of Western Sydney. However, in two thousand thirteen, Keen opted for voluntary redundancy following the closure of the university's economics program. This pivotal moment led him to a new role in two thousand fourteen as a professor and Head of the School of Economics, History and Politics at Kingston University in London.
After a successful career in academia, Keen has since retired from his formal teaching position. He now engages in independent research funded through crowd-sourcing initiatives. His expertise continues to be recognized, as he holds the title of Honorary Professor at University College London and serves as a Distinguished Research Fellow at the Institute for Strategy Resilience & Security.
