Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Steve Lundquist

Stephen K. Lundquist, born on February 20, 1961, is a distinguished American swimmer and film actor, celebrated for his remarkable achievements in competitive swimming. He made history at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles, where he clinched gold medals in both the 100-meter breaststroke and the 400-meter medley relay, solidifying his status as an Olympic champion.

Notably, Lundquist was the first swimmer to break the two-minute barrier in the 200-yard breaststroke and dominated every 100-yard breaststroke event he entered from 1980 to 1983. His career was marked by a series of impressive records; he first broke a world record at the tender age of seventeen and went on to set new world and American records on fifteen occasions. His prowess in the pool was evident when he first claimed the 100-meter breaststroke world record in 1982, a title he held until 1989, with a brief interruption in 1984.

Under the guidance of coach Arthur Winters, Lundquist transitioned from butterfly to breaststroke at the age of twelve, a decision that would lead him to dominate the sport. His collegiate career at Southern Methodist University, where he trained under Hall of Fame Coach George McMillion, further honed his skills and competitive edge.

After his Olympic triumphs, Lundquist dedicated time to charitable organizations and made numerous appearances on television and in films. His charisma and physicality earned him recognition in June 1985 when People Magazine honored him with the title of having the Best Chest among male celebrities. In 1996, he proudly served as an Olympic torchbearer and the Clayton County Master of Ceremonies during the torch run for the Atlanta Olympic Games.
