Steve McNair

Steve McNair, born on February 14, 1973, was a prominent American football player who made a significant impact in the NFL over a career that spanned fourteen seasons. He began his professional journey with the Houston Oilers, where he played for two seasons before the franchise relocated to Nashville, Tennessee. There, he became the first franchise quarterback of the Tennessee Titans, a role that would define his legacy.

McNair's collegiate career at Alcorn State was marked by excellence, culminating in the prestigious Walter Payton Award in 1994, recognizing him as the top player in NCAA Division I-AA. Selected third overall in the 1995 NFL Draft by the Oilers, he initially started six games in his first two seasons. However, he quickly established himself as the team's regular starting quarterback by the 1997 season, leading the Titans until 2005.

During his tenure with the Titans, McNair led the team to the playoffs four times, including a memorable run to Super Bowl XXXIV in 2000. His prowess on the field earned him three Pro Bowl selections, and in 2003, he was honored as an All-Pro and Co-MVP. Notably, he was the first African-American quarterback to win the AP NFL MVP award, a distinction he shares with only a few others in the league's history.

After the 2005 season, McNair was traded to the Baltimore Ravens, where he played for two additional seasons before retiring. Tragically, his life was cut short in 2009 when he was shot and killed in a murder-suicide involving his mistress, leaving behind a legacy that continues to resonate in the world of football.
