Steven Guilbeault, born on June ninth, nineteen seventy, is a prominent Canadian politician and environmentalist. He has served as the Member of Parliament for Laurier–Sainte-Marie since two thousand nineteen, representing the Liberal Party. His political journey includes significant roles such as Minister of Canadian Heritage from two thousand nineteen to two thousand twenty-one and Minister of Environment and Climate Change from two thousand twenty-one to two thousand twenty-five.
Before entering politics, Guilbeault was deeply involved in environmental activism. He co-founded Équiterre, a community-supported agriculture organization in Quebec, and dedicated a decade to serving as the director and campaign manager for Greenpeace's Quebec chapter. His commitment to environmental issues has been a driving force throughout his career.
In November two thousand eighteen, Guilbeault stepped down as senior director and spokesperson for Équiterre, marking a transition towards his political aspirations. He announced his candidacy for the two thousand nineteen Canadian federal election in July, which paved the way for his current role in government.
In two thousand twenty-five, he was appointed Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture, as well as Minister responsible for Official Languages, further solidifying his influence in Canadian politics.
