Steven Isserlis

Steven Isserlis, born on December nineteenth, nineteen fifty-eight, is a distinguished British cellist celebrated for his exceptional artistry as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, writer, and broadcaster. He is widely recognized as one of the leading musicians of his generation, known for his unique sound and diverse repertoire, which is enhanced by his preference for gut strings.

Throughout his illustrious career, Isserlis has received numerous accolades, including the Royal Philharmonic Society Music Award in nineteen ninety-three and the Robert Schumann Prize of the City of Zwickau in two thousand. In two thousand seventeen, he was honored with both the Wigmore Hall Medal and the Glashütte Original Music Festival Award, further solidifying his status in the classical music world.

His recordings have earned him significant recognition, including two Gramophone Awards, a Classical BRIT Award, a BBC Music Magazine Award, and two Grammy Award nominations, among others. Notably, he is one of only two living cellists to be inducted into the prestigious Gramophone Hall of Fame.
