Steven Naismith, born on September 14, 1986, is a distinguished Scottish football coach and former player, currently serving as the assistant manager to Steve Clarke for the Scotland national team. His football journey began at Kilmarnock in 2004, where he quickly made a name for himself, earning the SFWA Young Player of the Year award in 2006 and the SPFA Young Player of the Year award the following season.
In the summer of 2007, Naismith transferred to Rangers for a fee of one million nine hundred thousand pounds. During his tenure at the club, he celebrated three consecutive league titles, the Scottish Cup in 2009, and two League Cup victories. His career took him to the Premier League in 2012 when he signed with Everton, and later to Norwich City in 2016. Naismith also had two loan spells with Heart of Midlothian before making a permanent move to the club after his release from Norwich in 2019.
On the international stage, Naismith represented Scotland, earning fifty-one caps and scoring ten goals after making his senior debut in 2007. Primarily a forward, he also showcased his versatility by playing as a midfielder throughout his career.
After retiring from professional play in 2021, Naismith transitioned into coaching at Heart of Midlothian. He was appointed interim manager in April 2023 and secured a permanent position two months later, although his tenure ended with his dismissal in September 2024. In August 2025, he was appointed as the new assistant manager of the Scotland national team, marking another significant chapter in his football career.
