Steven Swanson

Steven Swanson, born on December third, nineteen sixty, is a distinguished American engineer and retired NASA astronaut. With a remarkable career at NASA, he has participated in two shuttle flights, STS-117 and STS-119, as well as one Soyuz flight, TMA-12M, all of which were pivotal missions to the International Space Station.

Throughout his time in space, Swanson has logged over one hundred ninety-five days and has completed five spacewalks, amassing a total of twenty-seven hours and fifty-eight minutes outside the confines of a spacecraft. His expertise and experience have also led him to serve as a CAPCOM for both International Space Station and Space Shuttle missions, showcasing his versatility and commitment to space exploration.

Before his illustrious career as an astronaut, Swanson honed his skills as a software engineer at GTE in Phoenix, Arizona. His contributions to the field have not gone unnoticed, as he has received numerous accolades, including the NASA Exceptional Achievement Medal and the JSC Certificate of Accommodation.
