Stephen Ray Vaughan, known to many as SRV, was born on October 3, 1954, in Dallas, Texas. He began his musical journey at the tender age of seven, inspired by his older brother, Jimmie Vaughan. By the time he was a teenager, Vaughan had dropped out of high school and moved to Austin in 1972, where he quickly made a name for himself on the local club circuit.

In 1978, Vaughan formed the blues rock trio Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble with bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton. The band quickly gained popularity in the Austin music scene, culminating in a performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival in July 1982. This performance caught the attention of David Bowie, who invited Vaughan to play on his album Let's Dance, further propelling his career.

Despite a mainstream career that lasted only seven years, Vaughan's impact on blues music is profound. His debut album, Texas Flood, released in 1983, received critical acclaim and marked the beginning of a successful run that included numerous television appearances and concert tours. Vaughan's struggles with addiction and the pressures of fame were well-documented, yet he managed to overcome these challenges, returning to the stage in 1986 after completing rehabilitation.
