Stewart Downing

Stewart Downing, born on July 22, 1984, is an English former professional footballer who made a significant impact in the world of football as a winger and left-back. His career began at Middlesbrough, where he quickly established himself as a key player. After a loan spell at Sunderland, he played a pivotal role in helping the team secure the League Cup in 2004 and reach the UEFA Cup final in 2006.

In 2009, following Middlesbrough's relegation, Downing transferred to Aston Villa for an initial fee of ten million pounds. His journey continued as he moved to Liverpool two years later for a sum of twenty million pounds, where he again celebrated League Cup success in 2012. After two seasons with West Ham United, he returned to Middlesbrough, contributing to the team's promotion to the Premier League.

Downing's international career spanned from 2005 to 2014, during which he earned thirty-five caps for England. He was part of the national squads that reached the quarter-finals of the 2006 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2012. After a distinguished playing career, he announced his retirement in August 2021.

Currently, Stewart Downing serves as the assistant coach for Leeds United's U21 squad, where he continues to influence the next generation of football talent.
