Stiliyan Petrov

Stiliyan Petrov, born on July fifth, nineteen seventy-nine, is a distinguished Bulgarian former professional footballer who made his mark as a midfielder. His career took off when he joined Celtic from CSKA Sofia in nineteen ninety-nine, where he enjoyed a successful tenure, securing ten trophies, including four Scottish Premier League titles, at the iconic Celtic Park.

In two thousand six, Petrov transitioned to the Premier League, signing with Aston Villa under the guidance of his former manager, Martin O'Neill. He quickly rose to prominence at Villa Park, eventually becoming the club captain. His contributions to the team were recognized in two thousand thirteen when he was inducted into the Aston Villa Hall of Fame, having made two hundred nineteen competitive appearances for the club.

On the international stage, Petrov holds the record as Bulgaria's all-time most-capped player, with one hundred five appearances for the national team. However, his career faced a significant challenge in March two thousand twelve when he was diagnosed with acute leukaemia, leading him to pause his football journey for treatment, which ultimately proved successful.

After announcing his retirement from professional football in May two thousand thirteen, Petrov transitioned into coaching, taking on roles with both the youth and first teams at Aston Villa in two thousand thirteen and two thousand fifteen. He returned to training in two thousand sixteen, initially with the under-twenty-one side, and later with the senior team, participating in pre-season matches, although he was not offered a playing contract by manager Roberto Di Matteo.
