Suleiman II of Persia

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Suleiman II of Persia

Mir Sayyed Muhammad Marashi, known by his dynastic name Suleiman II, was born in June 1714 and emerged as a significant figure in the tumultuous landscape of Iran during the mid-eighteenth century. He was a Safavid pretender who briefly ruled parts of Iran from 1749 to 1750, a period marked by political instability and power struggles.

In October 1748, Suleiman II was enthroned in Mashhad by Iranian nobles, following the decline of Nader Shah's influence. His ascent to power was short-lived, as just two months later, Nader Shah's nephew, Ebrahim Mirza, attempted to claim the throne but was swiftly defeated and forced to flee. During this chaotic time, Sayyid Muhammad took a firm stance, refusing to allow Ebrahim Mirza entry into the sacred city of Mashhad.

With a lineage connected to the Safavid dynasty—his mother being the daughter of Shah Suleiman I—Suleiman II was enthroned again in 1750 by Mir Alam Khan Khuzaima alongside several Kurdish and Jalayirid chiefs. However, his reign was marred by violence and betrayal, leading to his blinding and removal from power just months later, as Shahrokh, the grandson of Nader Shah, was restored to the throne.
