Sumitra Mahajan

Sumitra Mahajan, born on April twelfth, nineteen forty-three, is a distinguished Indian politician known for her significant contributions to the Indian Parliament. She served as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha from two thousand fourteen to two thousand nineteen, making her the second woman to hold this esteemed position after Meira Kumar. A member of the Bharatiya Janata Party, she represented the Indore constituency of Madhya Pradesh for an impressive thirty years, from nineteen eighty-nine to two thousand nineteen, establishing herself as the longest-serving woman Member of Parliament.

Throughout her political career, Mahajan has held various important roles, including Union Minister of State from nineteen ninety-nine to two thousand four. During this time, she managed key portfolios such as Human Resource Development, Communications and Information Technology, and Petroleum and Natural Gas. Her leadership extended to her role as Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment from two thousand four to two thousand nine, and later as Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Rural Development from two thousand nine to two thousand fourteen.
