Sunita Narain

Sunita Narain, born in 1961, is a prominent Indian environmentalist and political activist renowned for her advocacy of sustainable development. As the director general of the Centre for Science and Environment, she has been at the forefront of environmental research and policy in India, championing the cause of ecological balance and responsible resource management.

In addition to her leadership role at the Centre for Science and Environment, Narain serves as the director of the Society for Environmental Communications. Her editorial expertise shines through in her work as the editor of the fortnightly magazine, Down To Earth, where she addresses pressing environmental issues and promotes awareness among the public.

Recognized for her impactful contributions, Narain was named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in 2016. Her insights into climate change were further highlighted when she appeared alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in the documentary Before The Flood, where she discussed the significant effects of climate change on India's monsoon and its implications for farmers.
