Sunita Williams

Sunita Williams, born on September nineteenth, nineteen sixty-five, is a distinguished retired United States Navy captain and former NASA astronaut. With a remarkable career that spans various roles, including engineer, naval officer, naval aviator, test pilot, and flight engineer, she has made significant contributions to space exploration.

Williams served aboard the International Space Station (ISS) as a flight engineer for multiple expeditions, including Expedition fourteen, fifteen, thirty-two, and seventy-one. She also held the prestigious position of commander for Expedition thirty-three and seventy-two. Her extensive experience in space is highlighted by her participation in NASA’s Commercial Crew program, where she became the first woman to fly on a flight test of an orbital spacecraft during the twenty twenty-four Boeing Crew Flight Test.

Her time aboard the ISS was notably extended due to technical challenges, allowing her to spend over nine months in space. Williams is recognized as one of the most experienced spacewalkers, having completed nine spacewalks, which ranks as the second-most by a woman. Her total spacewalk time of sixty-two hours and six minutes places her fourth overall and makes her the record holder for the most time spent on spacewalks by a woman.
