Susan Rice

Susan Rice, born on November seventeenth, nineteen sixty-four, in Washington, D.C., is a distinguished American diplomat and policy advisor. A member of the Democratic Party, she has held several prominent positions, including the twenty-second director of the United States Domestic Policy Council from twenty twenty-one to twenty twenty-three, and the twenty-seventh U.S. ambassador to the United Nations from two thousand nine to two thousand thirteen.

Rice's academic journey took her to Stanford University and New College, Oxford, where she was honored as a Rhodes Scholar and earned a D.Phil. Her career in public service began on President Bill Clinton's National Security Council staff from nineteen ninety-three to nineteen ninety-seven, followed by her role as the assistant secretary of state for African affairs from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand one. At just thirty-two, she became the youngest individual to serve as a regional assistant secretary of state, during which she significantly influenced U.S.–Africa policy.

Throughout her career, Rice has been a strong advocate for human rights and global priorities, including climate change and women's rights. As U.N. ambassador, she was instrumental in promoting the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and the U.N. Millennium Development Goals. Her tenure also included defending Israel at the Security Council and advocating for sanctions against Iran and North Korea.

In two thousand twelve, she was considered as a potential successor to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton but withdrew from consideration amid controversy. Instead, President Barack Obama appointed her as national security advisor in two thousand thirteen, where she played a key role in various significant initiatives, including the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris Agreement on climate change. Most recently, from twenty twenty-one to twenty twenty-three, Rice served as the director of the Domestic Policy Council in the Biden administration.
