Suzanne Aubry

Suzanne Aubry, a distinguished Canadian novelist, screenwriter, and playwright, hails from Montreal but was born in Ottawa to literary parents Claude Aubry and Paule Saint-Onge. She honed her craft at the National Theatre School of Canada, where she graduated in playwriting. Her talent was recognized early on when her play, La nuit des p'tits couteaux, received a nomination for the prestigious Governor General's Award in 1987.

Aubry's screenwriting prowess is evident in her work for the 1994 film Meurtre en musique, directed by Gabriel Pelletier, and in collaboration with Louise Pelletier on three prime-time television series: Sauve qui peut!, À nous deux!, and Mon meilleur ennemi. She also contributed to notable series such as Manon and La Maison Deschênes, marking her significant presence in the Canadian television landscape.

In 2006, she ventured into novel writing with Le fort intérieur, which garnered a nomination for the Grand prix de la relève littéraire Archambault. Her historical series, Fanette, which follows an Irish orphan in 19th century Quebec, has sold over one hundred thousand copies, with the first two volumes available in English. Her ninth novel, Ma vie est entre tes mains, published in 2015, was recognized with a nomination for the Prix des cinq continents de la francophonie in 2016.

Beyond her literary achievements, Aubry has been an influential figure in the literary community, serving as the President of the Société des auteurs en cinéma et télévision from nineteen ninety-six to two thousand and as Chair of the Union des Écrivaines et des Écrivains québécois from May two thousand seventeen to May two thousand twenty-three. In 2022, she was honored with the Order of Canada for her contributions to Quebec literature and her advocacy for writers' rights.

Recently, she has expanded her repertoire to include children's literature with Le Septième étage et demi, published in 2022, and has revisited her Fanette series with new volumes released in 2021 and 2022. Her upcoming psychological thriller, Le Portrait, is set to be released in August 2023, further solidifying her status as a versatile and prolific writer.
