Svend Robinson

Svend Robinson, born on March fourth, nineteen fifty-two, is a notable Canadian politician, lawyer, and trade unionist. He served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from nineteen seventy-nine to two thousand four, representing the suburban Vancouver-area constituencies in Burnaby for the New Democratic Party (NDP). His tenure is particularly significant as he became the first MP in Canadian history to publicly come out as gay while in office, marking a pivotal moment in the representation of LGBTQ+ individuals in politics.

Throughout his career, Robinson was a dedicated public servant, being elected and re-elected for seven consecutive terms. By the time he decided not to run in the June two thousand four election, he was one of the longest-serving members in the House of Commons.
