Svetlana Tširkova-Lozovaja, born on November 5, 1945, in Tupner, Tsivilsky District, Chuvash ASSR, Soviet Union, is a distinguished former Soviet fencer and accomplished coach based in Estonia. She has made her mark in the world of fencing, securing two gold medals in team foil at the Summer Olympics in 1968 and 1972, showcasing her exceptional talent and dedication to the sport.
In addition to her Olympic success, Svetlana earned a bronze medal in the individual competition at the 1969 World Championships held in Havana, Cuba, where she narrowly missed the top spot, finishing behind Romanian fencer Ileana Gyulai-Drîmbă-Jenei. Her contributions to fencing were recognized when she was awarded the Medal 'For Distinguished Labour' and classified as a Merited Master of Sport of the USSR in 1972.
Having moved to Estonia in 1950, Svetlana graduated from the Pedagogical University of Tallinn in 1973. She became a five-time fencing champion of the Estonian SSR, further solidifying her legacy in the sport. As an Olympic champion, she holds the honor of being a member of the Estonian Olympic Committee.
Beyond her athletic achievements, Svetlana is a proud mother of two sons, Eduard 'Edik' Ber and Kirill Lozovoi, both of whom have followed in her footsteps as fencers. Her contributions to the sport have been recognized with the Estonian Order of the White Star (Third Class) in 2006 and the Tallinn City Cross in 2016.
