Syd Zolf

Syd Zolf, born on January 1, 1968, is a distinguished Canadian-American poet and literary theorist, previously known as Rachel Zolf. With a prolific career, they have authored five notable poetry collections, including 'Janey's Arcadia' (2014), which garnered nominations for prestigious awards such as the Lambda Literary Award and the Raymond Souster Memorial Award. Their earlier works, 'Human Resources' (2007) and 'Masque' (2004), also received critical acclaim, with 'Human Resources' winning the Trillium Book Award for Poetry in 2008.

In addition to their poetry, Zolf has made significant contributions to the field of poetics and theory, publishing 'No One's Witness: A Monstrous Poetics' in 2021, which was recognized as a finalist for the Pegasus Award for Poetry Criticism in 2022. Their selected poetry collection, 'Social Poesis: The Poetry of Rachel Zolf,' was released in 2019, further solidifying their impact on contemporary literature.

Beyond the written word, Zolf's artistic endeavors include an art video translation of poems from 'Janey’s Arcadia,' showcased at renowned venues such as the International Film Festival Rotterdam and the Vancouver Art Gallery. They have collaborated on various projects, including the film 'The Light Club of Vizcaya: A Women’s Picture,' which premiered at Art Basel Miami and was featured in multiple prestigious art institutions.

Currently, Zolf teaches at the University of Pennsylvania and has played a pivotal role in the literary community as the founding poetry editor for The Walrus magazine. Their archives are preserved at York University in Toronto and Simon Fraser University's Special Collections in Burnaby, British Columbia. Zolf is the child of notable author and broadcaster Larry Zolf and Patricia Zolf, further enriching their literary heritage.
