Syrianus

Syrianus, a prominent Greek Neoplatonist philosopher, was born around the year five hundred. He became the head of Plato's Academy in Athens, taking over the esteemed position from his mentor, Plutarch of Athens, in the early fifth century, specifically in the years four hundred thirty-one or four hundred thirty-two A.D.

His contributions to philosophy are significant, particularly as the teacher of the renowned philosopher Proclus. Syrianus is celebrated for his insightful commentaries on the works of both Plato and Aristotle, which have influenced generations of thinkers.

Among his notable works, the commentary on Aristotle's Metaphysics stands out as his best-known extant piece. Additionally, he is believed to have written commentaries on Aristotle's De Caelo and De Interpretatione, as well as on Plato's Timaeus, further showcasing his deep engagement with classical philosophical texts.
