Takanori Kono

Takanori Kono, born on March 7, 1969, is a distinguished former Japanese Nordic combined skier who made his mark in the sport during the 1990s. His remarkable career is highlighted by his impressive performances at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, the Winter Olympics, and the prestigious Holmenkollen ski festival.

Throughout his Olympic journey, Kono achieved extraordinary success, securing three medals. He earned two gold medals in the team event (3 x 10 km) in 1992 and 1994, along with a silver medal in the individual 15 km event in 1994. His prowess was further demonstrated at the world championships, where he clinched two gold medals in the team events (3 x 10 km in 1993 and 4 x 5 km in 1995).

In a historic achievement, Kono became the first Asian athlete to win the Nordic combined event at the Holmenkollen ski festival in 1993, solidifying his legacy in the sport. Beyond his competitive career, he served as the Deputy Vice Mayor of the Athletes Village during the 1998 Winter Olympics, showcasing his commitment to the Olympic movement.
