Talib Kweli, born on October 3, 1975, is a prominent American rapper, songwriter, and record producer known for his thought-provoking lyrics and social activism. He gained significant recognition as one half of the influential hip-hop duo Black Star, which he formed in 1997 alongside fellow Brooklyn artist Mos Def. Their collaboration produced the hit single 'Definition' in 1998, which made its mark on the Billboard Hot 100 and set the stage for their self-titled debut album, released the same year and entering the Billboard 200.
Following the initial success of Black Star, Kweli and Mos Def embarked on solo careers, showcasing their individual talents while still maintaining a strong connection. Despite their solo endeavors, the duo reunited to release a new album, 'No Fear of Time', in 2022, further solidifying their legacy in the hip-hop community.
In addition to his musical achievements, Kweli is also an entrepreneur and activist. In 2011, he took a significant step in his career by founding his own record label, Javotti Media, which allows him to promote and support emerging artists while maintaining creative control over his work.
