Tan Zhongyi

Tan Zhongyi, born on May twenty-ninth, nineteen ninety-one, is a distinguished Chinese chess grandmaster (GM) renowned for her exceptional skills and achievements in the world of chess.

She made history by winning the Women's World Championship in two thousand seventeen, triumphing in the knockout edition held in Iran, where she defeated Anna Muzychuk in a thrilling final. This victory solidified her status as a formidable competitor on the global chess stage.

In addition to her world championship title, Tan is a former Women's World Rapid Champion and has claimed the title of Chinese women's national champion three times. Her national championship victories span five titles overall, with wins in two thousand fifteen, two thousand twenty, two thousand twenty-one, and two thousand twenty-two.

Most recently, she emerged victorious in the Women's Candidates Tournament in two thousand twenty-four, earning her the opportunity to compete against Ju Wenjun in the Women's World Chess Championship scheduled for two thousand twenty-five.
