Tanja Fajon

Tanja Fajon, born on May ninth, nineteen seventy-one, in Ljubljana, is a prominent Slovenian politician and journalist. She has been serving as the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs since June twenty twenty-two, representing the Social Democrats. Fajon led her party from twenty twenty to twenty twenty-four, showcasing her leadership skills and commitment to Slovenian politics.

Before her political career, Fajon made a name for herself in journalism. She attended the Poljane Grammar School and pursued her studies in journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ljubljana. Later, she earned a master’s degree in international politics from Paris-Sud University. Her journalistic journey included significant roles at Radio Glas Ljubljana, the newspaper Republika, and RTV Slovenia, where she spent eight years as a Brussels correspondent, covering Slovenia’s accession to the European Union in two thousand four.

Fajon was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Slovenia in two thousand nine, and she continued to serve in this capacity until twenty twenty-two, being re-elected in two thousand fourteen and two thousand nineteen. During her tenure, she led the Slovenian delegation within the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) and played a crucial role as rapporteur on visa liberalization for the Western Balkans. Notably, she was recognized twice by Politico Europe as one of the forty most influential MEPs.

Following the parliamentary elections in twenty twenty-two, Fajon briefly served as a member of the National Assembly before joining the fifteenth Government of Slovenia under Prime Minister Robert Golob. As the party leader during the government’s formation, she made the significant decision to take on the role of Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, further solidifying her influence in Slovenian and European politics.
