Tarafa

Tarafa, born in the year five hundred forty-three, was a distinguished Arabian poet hailing from the Bakr tribe. His full name, Ṭarafah ibn al-‘Abd ibn Sufyān ibn Sa‘d Abū ‘Amr al-Bakrī al-Wā’ilī, reflects his rich heritage and lineage. He lived during a vibrant period of Arabic poetry, leaving an indelible mark on the literary landscape of his time.

Among the most celebrated poets of the ancient Arabic anthology known as the Muʿallaqāt, Tarafa stands out despite having only one of his poems included in this prestigious collection. This anthology features a select group of seven poets, including notable figures such as Al-Nabigha, Antarah ibn Shaddad, and Imru' al-Qais, showcasing the elite of Arabic poetic tradition.
