Ted Haggard, born on June twenty-seventh, nineteen fifty-six, is a former American Methodist pastor known for his influential role in the evangelical community. He founded New Life Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and played a pivotal role in establishing the Association of Life-Giving Churches. Haggard served as the president of the National Association of Evangelicals from two thousand three until November two thousand six, marking a significant period in his ministry.
In November two thousand six, Haggard's life took a dramatic turn when allegations surfaced from a male prostitute and masseur, Mike Jones. Jones claimed that Haggard had engaged in a three-year sexual relationship with him and had purchased and used crystal methamphetamine. Following these revelations, Haggard resigned from his position at New Life Church and stepped down from his other leadership roles.
In the aftermath of the scandal, Haggard admitted to drug use and acknowledged some sexual activity with Jones, as well as an inappropriate relationship with a young man from his church. Despite these challenges, Haggard and his wife, Gayle, founded Saint James Church, a Free Methodist Church, in Colorado Springs in two thousand ten, demonstrating their commitment to continue their ministry.
