Ted Nolan, born on April 7, 1958, is a distinguished Indigenous Canadian former professional ice hockey player and coach. Known for his role as a left winger, he made his mark in the National Hockey League (NHL) playing for teams such as the Detroit Red Wings and the Pittsburgh Penguins over three seasons.
Beyond his playing career, Nolan transitioned into coaching, where he left an indelible impact. He served as the head coach for the Buffalo Sabres, the Latvia men's national team, and the Poland men's national team. His coaching journey also included a stint with the New York Islanders, following a season as an assistant coach with the Hartford Whalers.
In a notable return to the Buffalo Sabres, Nolan was re-hired as interim head coach on November 13, 2013, a position he held until April 12, 2015. His leadership and experience have made him a respected figure in the world of ice hockey.
