Ted Strickland, born on August fourth, nineteen forty-one, is a prominent American politician and university teacher. He served as the sixty-eighth governor of Ohio from two thousand seven to two thousand eleven, representing the Democratic Party. Strickland's political career includes a significant tenure in the United States House of Representatives, where he represented Ohio's sixth congressional district from nineteen ninety-three to nineteen ninety-five and again from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand seven.
In the two thousand six gubernatorial election, Strickland achieved a remarkable victory, securing sixty percent of the vote against Republican incumbent Bob Taft and defeating Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell. However, his bid for re-election in two thousand ten was met with a narrow defeat at the hands of former U.S. Representative John Kasich.
After his governorship, Strickland took on the role of president at the Center for American Progress Action Fund in April two thousand fourteen, a progressive public policy research and advocacy organization. He held this position until February two thousand fifteen, when he announced his intention to run for the United States Senate against incumbent Rob Portman. Unfortunately, Strickland faced a significant loss in that election, trailing by twenty points.
