Calderón's breakthrough came with the release of his first album, El Abayarde, in two thousand three, which achieved international acclaim, selling three hundred thousand copies globally and earning a nomination for a Latin Grammy Award.

His influence in the reggaeton genre was further solidified by his participation in Eddie Dee's album, 12 Discípulos, in two thousand four.
