Terri Lyne Carrington, born on August fourth, nineteen sixty-five, is a distinguished American jazz drummer, composer, producer, and educator. With a remarkable career, she has collaborated with legendary artists such as Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, and Herbie Hancock, showcasing her versatility across various musical configurations during her decade-long tour with Hancock from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand seven.

In two thousand seven, Carrington returned to her roots as a professor at the Berklee College of Music, where she had previously earned an honorary doctorate in two thousand three. She is the founder and artistic director of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice, as well as The Carr Center in Detroit, Michigan. Her commitment to the music community extends to her roles on the board of trustees for The Recording Academy and the advisory board for The History Makers and New Music USA.

Throughout her illustrious career, Carrington has garnered four Grammy Awards, including a groundbreaking win in two thousand thirteen for Best Jazz Instrumental Album, making her the first female musician to achieve this honor. She has received a total of seven Grammy nominations, with her latest nomination for the album We Insist twenty twenty-five! in the Best Jazz Vocal Album category.
