Tevfik Esenç

Tevfik Esenç, born in 1904, was a distinguished Turkish citizen of Ubykh Circassian descent, celebrated for his unique role as the last fluent speaker of the Ubykh language. His linguistic prowess extended beyond Ubykh; he was also fluent in Adyghe and Turkish, showcasing a remarkable command of multiple languages.

Throughout his life, Esenç dedicated himself to preserving the Ubykh language and culture. His efforts were pivotal in documenting the intricacies of Ubykh, contributing significantly to the world's understanding of this nearly extinct language. Despite the tireless work of numerous linguists after his passing in 1992, the Ubykh language ultimately succumbed to extinction.
