She gained international acclaim in nineteen sixty-three with her hit song "Dominique," which not only topped the US Billboard Hot 100 but also resonated with audiences worldwide, leading to the release of her debut album.

Despite her initial success, The Singing Nun faced significant challenges in her life. Confusion surrounding the terms of her recording contract ultimately led her to financial hardship. This period of struggle was compounded by a profound crisis of faith, which resulted in her departure from the Dominican Order, although she continued to identify as a Catholic.
